Intersectional Mysticism is my first book. I began writing it in 2018, a textbook to the practices of intersectional feminist mystics I saw emerging in online community whose work and worldviews echoed my own. When I finished writing it in 2020, my publishing pathway was stalled by the pandemic and a series of rejections and non-responses, which dampened my drive.
After tuning into my own creative spark following a restorative year, I decided to self-publish, beginning with a highly flexible and editable version on Substack. I’m genuinely so excited that the book’s first section, ‘Body’, is now out in the world.
The forthcoming section is ‘Spirit’. But between sections, I plan to develop and publish creative worksheets as companions to the text to facilitate transitions - both mine and the reader's. Expect questions, quizzes, doodles, collages, word searches and other fun things that bring the text to life. I’m calling these mile markers, a term borrowed from the best poetry class ever, Writers Anonymous with Buddy Wakefield.
Thank you to everyone who has subscribed and read so far. Your precious attention and engagement means the world to me, and affirms my choice to sidestep traditional publishing and return to my DIY and web publishing roots (shoutout isangmahal arts kollective, Youth Speaks Seattle, and my very Y2K first home on the web).
Introductory sections and all 8 chapters of Body are out now at mangroveroad.substack.com
Spirit coming soon!
So glad you did! I'm sharing around too :)
